1998 graduate of Pacific University, Blake Timm
has served as Pacific's sports information director
since 1999.
Timm is in charge of the daily publicity and media relations for Pacific's 20 intercollegiate sports, which compete as part of NCAA Division III and the Northwest Conference. Those duties include daily contact with media, producing publications and maintaining statistics for all sports, coordinating game management for all home events and daily maintenance of the athletic department's Web site, www.goboxers.com.
In addition to his assigned duties, Timm has been the public address announcer for Pacific Athletics since 1994. The "Voice of the Boxers" can be heard at volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball games. A broadcaster since high school, Timm teamed with Rich Burk to air Pacific basketball radio broadcasts from 1996-1998 and 1999-2004.
In addition, Timm is a frequent contributor to the University's alumni magazine, Pacific, and has penned a bi-weekly column for the Forest Grove News-Times newspaper since June 2006.
Timm has been honored numerous times for his work in publicizing Pacific's student-athletes. In 2007, Timm was voted by his peers at the Northwest Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, becoming just the second person so honored. In 2006, he was recognized by Pacific with it's "Outstanding Contribution of an Individual for University Service" award, which honors staff members who have given great service to the institution.
Timm has received a total of 15 awards in the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) Publications Contest, including "Best In The Nation" honors for his 2006-07 Men's & Women's Soccer and Men's & Women's Wrestling media guides and his 2004-05 Men's & Women's Swimming guide, and a "Best Cover" award for his 2006-07 Men's & Women's Wrestling guide.
In addition, the 2006-07 Men's & Women's Wrestling Guide was honored as the top Division III guide in the nation by the editors of Amateur Wrestling News, a leading national wrestling publication.
Timm has also received nine citiations in CoSIDA's annual Fred Stabley, Sr., Writing Contest, including a "Best In The Nation" honor for his work on Pacific Magazine's Summer 2004 feature, "Pacific's Connection To The Olympics."
Outside of the Pacific arena, Timm has served as the official statistican for the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer Leagues' First Division since 2002. He has also served the team as a writer, public address announcer and broadcaster. Timm also assists the Triple A Portland Beavers baseball team as a back-up official scorer and as a back-up public address announcer.
Timm was a member of the media relations staff at the Portland venue for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup and has also assisted with media relations for the 2000 NCAA Division III Cross-Country Championships, the 2003 NCAA Division II Softball Championships and the 2007 West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament. He has also served as the public address voice for the OSAA/U.S. Bank Class 1A/2A High School Volleyball Championships, held at the Pacific Athletic Center, since 2003 and is an active volunteer at other OSAA events.
Timm is an active member of CoSIDA. He served on the organization's board of directors as a College Division Representative from 2004-07 and began a term as an At-Large Representative on the board in 2007. He is a district coordinator for CoSIDA's Academic All-American program, has twice been a presenter at CoSIDA's annual workshop and has moderated the organization's annual Division III meeting since 2005.
Timm is also a member of the Track & Field Writers Association, the United States Basketball Writers Association, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers.
Prior to returning to Forest Grove, Timm was employed as news and sports director at KCMB Radio in La Grande, Ore. In addition to news, he broadcast Baker High School football and basketball and provided the play-by-play voice for the OSAA/U.S. Bank State 1A High School Basketball Tournament. Timm has also worked as a general assignment reporter for KOTI-TV in Klamath Falls, Ore., and spent three years as the sports editor for Pacific's student newspaper, the Index.
Athletically, Timm was a three-year member of the Pacific cross country and track & field squads and was a six-time letterwinner at Klamath Union High School in both sports, qualifying the state cross country meet three times.
Timm and his wife, Melissa, live in Forest Grove with their daughter, Sydney, cat Tigger and golden retriever Dakota.
