Ken Schumann, a member of the Pacific athletic department for three decades as a coach and administrator, was named at Pacific's Director of Athletics in May 2005. Schumann was elevated to the permanent post after serving one year as Interim Director of Athletics.

"I am very excited and very much looking forward to leading the athletic department at such a great period in Pacific's history," Schumann said. "This is an exciting time for Pacific athletics and with the initiatives we hope to accomplish, we will enhance the experience we provide for our student-athletes."

During his year as interim director of athletics, Schumann has been instrumental in building the foundation for future success in Boxer athletics. He developed the Boxer Club, the University's athletic booster club, and in 2004 was responsible for developing a five-year strategic plan for Pacific athletics as part of a University-wide strategic planning process.

"My goal over the next few years is to have this program achieve the excellence that is reflected throughout the entire University," Schumann said. "We have a great staff and a great set of coaches in place, and I look forward to working with them to build our program and reach the goals we have for Pacific athletics."

Schumann began his collegiate athletics career at Pacific in 1984, serving as assistant men's basketball coach and sports information director. He was promoted to associate athletic director and succeeded Bob Bonn as head men's basketball coach in 1992, a capacity he served in until 2005.

Schumann is the winningest coach in Pacific men's basketball history, amassing 152 wins, and earned his 150th victory this season. He led his 1996-97 Boxers to the Northwest Conference championship, a berth in the NAIA Division II National Tournament and a No. 5 national ranking, the highest in school history. Schumann's Boxers returned to the national tournament in 2000, and was one of the first Northwest Conference basketball teams to appear in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

In his 13 seasons, Schumann was named Northwest Conference Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1997 and was honored as the Little All-Northwest Coach of the Year in 1997. He earned his 100th victory in 2000 and surpassed Dan French for the career victories record in 2001.

As associate athletic director, Schumann served as the University's compliance officer, was in charge of producing Pacific's annual gender equity reports and spearheaded fundraising activities for the program. He also chaired five search committees for head coaching positions and coordinated the University's Athletic Hall of Fame.

In addition to his coaching and administrative duties, Schumann has taught coaching classes and athletic administration classes for the University's Department of Exercise Science.

A native of Portland, Schumann played collegiate basketball at George Fox University in Newberg and graduated with a degree in physical education in 1981. He earned his master's degree in physical education from Portland State University in 1985. Schumann and his wife, Linda, live in Portland.
