Malychewski Continues To Win As Boxers Fall To Clackamas
OREGON CITY, Ore. –
Caleb Malychewski (Sr., Camas, Wash.) won his third straight match after a week off from competition, but he proved the only winner as national junior college power Clackamas CC rolled past Pacific 41-4 in men's wrestling dual meet action at Randall Hall.
Â
Malychewski improved to 22-3 on the season and a perfect 11-0 in dual matches as he easily won a 9-0 major decision over Kolby Mays in the 184-pound bout. It was Malychewski's third win in a row and his 13 victory over his last 14 matches.
Â
The win snapped a streak of seven straight matches won by the Cougars, ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA's National Poll. Six of those matches were bonus-point victories as Clackamas ran six nationally-ranked wrestlers onto mat to face the Boxers.
Â
Pacific's closest matches all came in the upper weights.Â
Michael Tyner (Jr., Aloha, Ore.) dropped a 5-1 decision victory at 174 pounds to Tyler White before Malychewski broke the ice with his win at 184.Â
Chris Harlin (Sr., Issaquah, Wash.) took an 11-5 decision loss to No. 8 (NJCAA) ranked Ihoghama Odighizuma at 197 pounds before
Jacob Richards (Fr., Fort Bragg, Calif.) dropped a heart-breaking 4-2 overtime decision to Brandon Johnson.
Â
Clackamas improved to 11-3 this season in dual meets while Pacific fell to 5-6.
Â
Pacific will take a select group of wrestling to Minnesota this weekend for the North Country Open on Saturday on the campus of St. John's University. The Boxers return to dual match competition on Feb. 9 at Division II Simon Fraser.
