Eric Harder (Sr., Bethesda, Md.) won four straight matches to claim the championship at 133 pounds Sunday, leading five Pacific placers at the Boxer Open, held at the Stoller Center.
Harder allowed just three points to his opponents as he cruised rather easily through the round-robin bracket. His ledger included a pair of technical falls over Central Washington's Andrew Vulliet and Columbia Basin's Hugo Mabry and two pins over Western Washington's Jordan Stello and Clackamas CC's Andres Tereza.
Shawn Speer (Jr., Battle Ground, Wash) added a fifth place finish at 141 pounds. After a quarterfinals victory over Western Washington's Jake Crawford, Speer took a pair of pins to end up in the fifth place match, where he downed teammate
Keith Thomas (Fr., Fremont, Calif.) by fall. Thomas was awarded sixth place in the bracket, earning one win over Western Washington's Kegan Mulholland in the quarterfinals, 9-4.
Bryan Hoffmann (Fr., West Sacramento, Calif.) and
Tyler Howe (Fr., Aumsville, Ore.) each earned sixth place finishes in their weight classes. Hoffmann opened his day in the 285-pound weight class with a second round pin over Columbia Basin's Rudy Jimenez and eventually lost in the fifth place match in a 17-7 major decision to Simon Fraser's Sean Molle. Howe earned a first round pin over Central Washington's Victor McIntosh before having to withdraw with a medical default.
Joey Norcia (Jr., Santa Ynez, Calif.) won two matches in the 184-pound weight class, but did not advance to a placing match. Norcia collected a 4:29 pin over Warner Pacific's Jonathan Moskowitz and a 1:45 pin over teammate
David Adkinson (Fr., Clatskanie, Ore.).
Pacific closes out their 2014-15 home schedule on Thursday, hosting Warner Pacific for men's and women's duals beginning at 6 p.m. A live video webcast of both duals will be available at GoBoxers.com.
