Pacific University juniors
Stephenie Spencer (Bothell, Wash.) and
Emily Sproul (Salem, Ore.) were among 608 student-athletes, who recently earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track & field seasons.
Spencer was one of the top distance runners after qualifying for her third NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in the fall. She was the 47
th fastest performer in the nation in the 10,000-meter run with a championship-winning performance at the 2017 Northwest Conference Championships in a school record time of 37:21.55.
Sproul finished seventh in the women's javelin throw at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships and earned All-American honors in the process. Sproul, who was competing at the national meet for the third straight year, earned the honor for the second straight year as she also finished seventh in 2016. Earlier in the year, she improved her personal best to 43.34m (142-2) while also winning a Northwest Conference title.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
