Rebecaa Hoffman earns a national title and Pacific places all four wrestlers to finish third at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Women's Nationals

HAMPTON, Va. - Rebecca Hoffman (So., La Mirada, Calif.) earned her first national championship Saturday, winning the unlimited weight class and leading the Boxers to a third place finish at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Women's Championships at the Convocation Center Arena.

Hoffman captured the unlimited championship with a first round fall over Mercer's Erin Patterson.  She is the first Pacific athlete to earn a national title since the Boxers joined the NCWA in 2007.

Hoffman's title led a small, but effective, Pacific team to a third place finish with 35.5 points.  Yakima Valley claimed the national title with 73 points.  Simon Fraser was second with 57.5 points.

All four competing Pacific wrestlers earned All-American distinction.  Caronne Roset (Fr., Pukalani, Hawaii) finished second in the 121-pound weight class, losing in the championship final to Simon Fraser's Laura Wilson in a 19-3 technical fall.  Roset finished going 1-2 in her bracket.

Summer Scott (Sr., Castro Valley, Calif.) and Summer Steenberg (So., Kent, Wash.) finished second and third in the 130-pound weight class.  Scott was a winner over Steenberg, 6-0, in the third session and lost a close 6-5 decision to Yakima Valley's Ashlee Phy in the final.  Steenberg won the consolation final, scoring a first round pin over Auburn's Audra Creech.
