SPOKANE, Wash. – Natahn Gilpin (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) finished second in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday, leading a great day for Pacific’s sprinters and hurdlers as the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships concluded at Whitworth University’s Boppell Track.

Gilpin posted a season best in a close heat, finishing second with a time of 56.90 seconds.  He finished just a half step behind Pacific Lutheran’s Barrett Bollen, who won the conference title with a time of 56.13 seconds.  Earlier in the day, Gilpin finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.46 seconds.

Gilpin proved to be the top-point scorer for the Boxers, lifting the Pacific men to a seventh place finish with 29 points.  Pacific’s women finished in eighth place with 23 points.  Whitworth cruised to the men’s title, scoring 266 points on their home track, while Willamette’s women finished off a come-from-behind effort to win with 161 points.

Jarred Franklin (Fr., McMinnville, Ore.) finished seventh in the men’s 100 meters, adding two team points with his time of 11.46 seconds.  The men’s 400-meter relay team of Tony Lam (Jr., Portland, Ore.), Michael Hunker (Fr., Cornelius, Ore.), Alex Florence (Jr., Tigard, Ore.) and Franklin finished off a great year in the relays with a third place finish in 43.23 seconds.  The Pacific 1,600-meter relay team placed seventh in 3:32.00.

John Fredericks (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) also capped a strong season with a third place in the pole vault, flying over the bar at 14 feet, 2 inches.  Bobby Larkins (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) closed out scoring with an eighth place finish in the shot put with a mark of 46 feet, 5.25 inches.

Haley Tank (Fr., West Richland, Wash.) led the Pacific women with a third place finish in the shot put, finishing with a mark of 37 feet, 9.5 inches.  Chloe Hallyburton (Fr., Dayton, Ore.) added a fifth place finish in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 11.5 inches.

Jenna Matsumoto (So., Kailua, Hawaii) placed in both hurdles events, finishing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.99 and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.19 seconds.

Pacific will host their final meet of the 2010 season on Saturday as the third annual Pacific Twilight meet takes place at Lincoln Park Stadium.  Field events will begin at noon with running events beginning at 3 p.m.
