2011 Women's Golf Review

KITAMORI ENDS ON HIGH NOTE: Valerie Kitamori has left her mark on the Pacific women’s golf program. This season Kitamori had an 81.6 stroke average and ended the season tying for third in the Women’s Independent Division at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championships.

"Valerie has worked hard and has been one of the best women's golfers we've had at Pacific," said head coach Richard Warren. "She was very consistent over the last four years."

Kitamori finished in the top-10 in 12 of the 14 meets she competed in during the 2010-11 season. She won the Willamette Invitational on Mar. 5 and the Linfield Dual on Mar. 21.

SMALL BUT MIGHTY: The women’s golf team was not always able to field a complete team, but competed well when they had a full line-up of four golfers at a meet. Pacific finished the year in fifth in the NWC standings, even after withdrawing from the NWC Fall Classic.

In the fall, the Boxers had a full line-up at every meet and their best finish was second at the Willamette Valley Championship on Oct. 1. In the spring, Pacific had a few injuries that prevented four golfers from hitting the course at every meet. However, the Boxers were never short at NWC meets. At the NWC Spring Classic, Pacific finished fourth and at the NWC Championships the Boxers finished fifth with their best team score, a 703, of the season.

Valerie Kitamori and Kaci Linton golfed at every meet this season for the Boxers and Tami Park and Jayme Hall filled in the remainder of the Pacific top four.

BY THE NUMBERS:
This season the Boxers competed in 13 tournaments as a team and Valerie Kitamori competed in one individually. As a team they had a 366.2 stroke average. The best single round score coming at the NWC Championships on Apr. 22 when they compiled a 342 total and they collected the best two-round meet score at the NWC Championships as well, with a 703-stroke finish.

Individually, Kitamori, Jayme Hall, Tami Park and Kaci Linton where the Boxers’ top golfers. Kitamori led the team with an 81.6 average. Hall had a 93.7 average, Park was close behind with a 94.1 average and Linton rounded it off with a 102.0 average.

SO LONG, FAREWELL: The Hilo, Hawaii duo has played its final holes in Pacific uniforms. Valerie Kitamori and Tami Park have made strong contributions to the Pacific program over the last four years.

Kitamori made positive strides each season by improving her stroke average each year. She started her career with an 87.81 average as a freshman and closed it out with an 81.6 average. She was an All-NWC golfer after earning runner-up honors at the NWC Fall Classic in 2008. As a freshman, she was Pacific’s top-finisher at the NCAA Division III Championships with her 60th place finish.

Park had ups and downs through her four-year campaign. Her best season average was during her freshman season when she had an 85.64 stroke average and finished in the top-10 in all the regular season meets she competed in and earned All-NWC honors. In her senior season, she had a 94.1 average, competed in 11 meets and finished in the top-10 three times.
