Pete Yellico is in his ninth season as part of the Pacific men's tennis program, fifth as Head Coach. Yellico has posted an impressive 95-41 overall record and 63-12 record in conference play.Â
Yellico continued this level of excellence in 2021 by propelling the program new heights as the Boxers achieved their highest national ranking ever, finishing 17th in the country.
Yellico has coached three players into the national rankings including Reyn Miyagawa (currently ranked #39 in singles), and Sean Murphy and Quentin Gonzalez finishing the year ranked #18 in doubles. In 2021, Pacific defeated Whitman College for the first time in 36 years. Yellico was then named NWC Coach of the Year after the team's historic performance. His work continued on the recruiting trail as his incoming class was ranked #24 by Tennis Recruiting Network.
In 2019, the Boxers posted an 11-9 record and 6-2 in the NWC, taking third in the NWC Tournament, while finishing the season ranked 13th in the West Region. His first year as head coach came in 2016-17 where the Boxers notched an 11-8 record and 8-4 in NWC play. They registered a third place finish in the NWC Tournament and finished ninth in the West Region in the final polls of the season. Yellico's team went 9-7 and 5-3 (NWC) in 2017-18, while the 2019-20 season got cut short due to COVID-19. The team was 4-4 before the stoppage.
Under Yellico, nine Boxers have earned All-NWC honors, with five earning first-team honors and four getting nod for second-team recognition. A total of 14 athletes have earned All-NWC during his tenure with the program. Academically, the Boxers have been strong under Yellico also with 34 All-NWC scholar athletes in his years as Head Coach, including a trio of first team All-NWC scholar athletes in Rayden Murata (2019-20), Oscar Wright (2017-18) and Clark Winninger (2016-17). The Boxers have earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team honors in all five years during his time as head coach, and have also had 30 ITA scholar athletes.
As an assistant coach, Yellico helped the Boxers to three second-place finishes in the NWC Tournament, finishing each of those seasons ranked in the Top 10 of the West Region. In 2016, the Boxers won a school record 16 dual matches and finished the season 18-4 overall and 11-1 in the NWC which led to Yellico being named ITA NCAA Division III West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. The program won 15 matches in 2014 and 2015.Â
Yellico has proven experience as a teacher and clinician at the adult and junior levels of tennis. Before joining the Boxers, he served from 2009-2012 as a tennis professional at the Bremerton (WA) Tennis & Athletic Club. During his tenure, Yellico coached junior teams that reached USTA national competitions and coached five nationally ranked juniors players.
In 2012, Yellico was recruited by 1993 French Open doubles champion Murphy Jensen to work as an elite tennis professional at the Sea Island Resort in Sea Island, Ga. In that role, Yellico taught juniors and adults with a wide variety of playing experiences and skill levels. He also worked as the professional hitting partner for WTA player Emily Harman and coordinated and competed in exhibition matches with Jensen and his doubles partner, Luke Jensen.
Yellico is also a devoted volunteer and Coach-Tutor with Portland Tennis & Education, an organization that serves over 60 at-risk children from severely under-resourced families.Â
Yellico showed his committment to the development of the men's tennis program as well as Pacific Athletics when he facilitated the grant writing necessary to be rewarded the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) Collegiate Court Technology Grant of $10,000 for the Holce Tennis Facility. Through this grant, Yellico oversaw the installation of PlaySight technology at the university's tennis facilities, which allows for family, alumni, and supporters of the Men’s and Women’s tennis programs to enjoy livestreaming of matches. In 2020, Coach Yellico showed his outstanding leadership abilities during the the COVID-19 pandemic as his efforts led to 100% retention of his team, with all of his seniors postponing graduation in order to play another season.

Prior to his career as a tennis professional, Yellico served five years in the United States Navy as an aviation ordinance man on the U.S.S. John C. Stennis, a nuclear powered aircraft carrier, supervising a crew of 65 sailors. He was awarded with the Navy Achievement Medal while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was honorably discharged in 2009.
Yellico played one season of collegiate tennis at the Savannah College of Art & Design.
He graduated from Pacific University with his bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in finance.Â
