Pacific's handball club team was founded in 1977 and began its involvement with the Collegiate Nationals in 1981 with only two players: Fred Feil and Carl Schwend.

Since then, the Boxers have appeared in 39 consecutive Collegiate National Championships and have produced over two dozen national champions, three All-Americans, four Sportsmanship Award winners, two Sabo Scholarship winners, and numerous finishes in the sport's top-four teams.

The Boxers are clearly a national powerhouse in handball. In 2013, Pacific won the combined men's and women's national team championship and repeated as champion in 2014. The 2015 Pacific team finished fourth overall with women's and men's doubles teams winning their respective championships and one player winning both a singles and doubles title (a Pacific first). In 2016, the Boxers were again the A Division Combined Team National Champions and the A Division Women's Team National Champs. Benjamin Schmid and Angel Marquez defended their Men's A Doubles Division national title successfully.

There is always plenty of action for handball players at Pacific University. The team has regularly scheduled practices from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, two invitational tournaments played on campus at the newly renovated courts and numerous trips to tournaments around the state and the northwest from September to May.

Boxer Handball is generously funded by the Pacific athletic department and the Alten Handball Foundation for tournament travel and participation, equipment, uniforms and video analysis and coaching. The new head coach in 2015, David Steinberg, is a certified personal trainer specializing in performance enhancement, endurance and balance control.

If you have a strong desire for sports competition and want to actually play instead of sit on the bench, handball is a smart choice.
