Two game win streak ends in 1-0 loss to Loggers

Box Score

TACOMA – Vincent McCluskey's goal in the 70th minute broke a scoreless tie as Puget Sound defeated Pacific 1-0 in a defensive battle

In a game played primarily in midfield, the Boxers outshot the Loggers 5-3 in the first half, but could only muster two shots on goal for the game to Puget's Sound's four. Both of those shots came in the first half, while Nick Rudella (So., Sammamish, Wash.) fired a ball off the post in the 24th minute. A deflection shortly thereafter led to a corner kick, but Pacific could not convert.

Devin Shull's (So., Seattle, Wash.) shot early in the 40th minute was deflected over the end line by Puget Sound goalkeeper Chris McDonald leading to another Boxer corner kick. Rudella had one more shot at the Loggers goal, but missed wide right in the final seconds of the half.

The Boxers could not get a shot on goal in the second half, but held the game scoreless until McCluskey took  a cross in the 6-yard box from Terance Blackburn and shot over the diving Michael Summers (So., Beaverton, Ore.) for his second goal of the season and first game-winner.

The Loggers outshot Pacific 8-7 for the game and had a 9-5 edge in corner kicks. Tightening up even more defensively over the final 20 minutes, Puget Sound did not allow a single Boxer shot after scoring the tiebreaking goal.

The Boxers will stay in Tacoma to take on Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, Oct. 2 with the match kicking off at 2:30 p.m.
