Box Score
WALLA WALLA, WASH. – The Pacific women's soccer team scored multiple goals for the second straight game and goalkeeper
Kayla Davidson (So., Kailu, Hawaii) made nine saves in her first career start in a 3-1 win at Whitman Saturday.
Jordan Bodily (Sr., Eagle, Idaho) broke a scoreless tie in the 36
th minute of the first half with a long distance delivery, firing a shot from 25 yards away over the head of Whitman keeper Emily Davis for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Boxers (5-4-2 NWC, 8-5-2 overall) added to their lead less than 90 seconds later when
Kailee Green (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) broke free on a run up the right sideline. Her initial shot was parried by Davis right back to Green, who drove the rebound into the back of the net for a 2-0 Boxer advantage in the 38
th minute.
In action at the other end of the pitch just before Green's breakaway goal, NWC scoring leader Amy Hasson had a point blank scoring opportunity off a corner kick, but Davidson was there to stuff the shot, one of six first half saves for the sophomore keeper, who carried a shutout into the final ten minutes despite a flurry of Missionary shots early in the match.
Whitman (4-7-1, 6-9-1) had 11 shots on goal in the game and dominated play for a 15 minute stretch in the first half, but came away empty. The teams combined for 40 shots in an offensively-charged contest.
Pacific extended its lead to 3-0 in the 60
th minute when
Tianna Homad (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) took a pass from
Shekema McCarthy (Sr., Davis, Calif.), positioned herself, then fired a shot that deflected off the far post and into the side netting. McCarthy had entered the game just 43 seconds earlier before delivering her fifth assist of the season, which put her in a temporary tie for the NWC lead with Whitman's Jaclyn Rudd.
That tie wouldn't last the match, however, as Rudd and Hasson connected in the 82
nd minute when Hasson headed in a Rudd cross for her 12
th goal of the season.
Davidson, who was credited with a win after playing the second half of Pacific's previous game against Lewis * Clark, improved to 2-0-0 in goal for the season. Green led the Boxers with five shots, three on goal. Hasson, who leads the NWC in shot and shots on goal as well as goals, led all players with eight shots, putting five on frame. MacKenzie Hughes also had three shots on goal for the Missionaries, who defeated Pacific 1-0 at Lincoln Park Stadium when the teams met earlier in the season.
The Boxers wrap up a three-game road trip at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, Oct. 29 before returning home to face Willamette the following day. Both matches will kick off at noon.
