Katie Porter and Amanda Clark involved in five new school records.

Final Results

SPOKANE – The Pacific swim teams opened the conference dual meet schedule by facing the odds-on favorite in the NWC. While Whitworth's depth prevailed with a team sweep of the Friday meet, the Boxers got some outstanding individual contributions and a clutch of record times.

Whitworth's men defeated the Boxers 150-52, while the Pirates women swam away with a 113-92 win. The Pirates vaunted depth was especially a factor in the women's dual, where the Boxers took first place in six of the 11 events.

Katie Porter continued an impressive start to her collegiate career, setting school record marks in the 50 and 100 freestyle. In two 50-yard swims, Porter has already set new school marks, besting her previous record from the NWC Sprint Pentathlon by finishing in 24.48, edging Whitworth's Jennifer Benson by three-tenths of a second. Porter's first-place time of 53.72 in the 100 free was a full second ahead of Benson and shattered Cherice Cochrane's previous record of 55.28 set last year.

Amanda Clark was also a double-winner, taking first place in the 500 (5:17.60) and 1000 free (10:54.26) and combined with Porter, Kristine Valdez* and Amber Chase on Pacific's victorious 400 free relay (3:38.07). All three marks are new Pacific school records, with the distance freestyle marks among Pacific's oldest standing swim records.

Allison Clark gave the Pacific women's their sixth win of the day, finishing two seconds ahead of Whitworth's Melissa Barringer with a time of 2:31.41 in the 200 breaststroke.

Samantha Smith was Whitworth's only double-winner, taking first place in the 200 individual medley (2:14.19) and 200 butterfly (2:16.11)

Rory Buck swam to two victories for the Whitworth men, highlighted by a school record and NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.14). Buck also took first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.92.

Kramer Ichimura and Dylan Cramer swam to first place finishes for the Boxer men. Ichimura won the 200 butterfly (1:59.15) and Cramer took first in the 200 backstroke (1:59.73).

The loaded Pirates were able to put “A” and “B” relay teams in front of Pacific on the way to an easy win.

The Boxers continue their eastern Washington trek with a dual meet at Whitman today.
