Final Results

WALLA WALLA, WASH. – The Pacific women's swim team was one event away from claiming its first Northwest Conference dual meet victory of the season, but a strong finish in the 200 freestyle relay by host Whitman put the finishing touches on an eastern Washington splash sweep.

The Missionaries quartet of Helen Jenne, Ellen Banks, Charlotte Graham and Keller Hawkins finished a tick under two seconds in front of Boxers foursome to win the meet's final event in 1:42.09. With the Whitman “B” team picking up an additional two points by easily outdistancing their Pacific counterparts, the Missionaries overcame a two-point deficit to defeat the Boxers 106-99, while the Whitman men cruised to a 139-64 victory by winning all but one event.

After Amanda Clark (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) breezed to a near eight second victory in the 500 freestyle (5:19.64), the Boxers took a 90-79 lead into the final two events of the meet. Whitman's Genay Pilarowski followed with a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.84) and teammate Claire Collins just edged out Pacific's Allison Clark (Jr., Keizer, Ore.) by a tenth of a second for a second place finish (1:11.19) and a key four points.

Earlier in the meet, Clark led a Boxer sweep of the first three places in the 400 individual medley, finishing in 4:47.37 as Stacie Struble (Fr., Albany, Ore.) and Nicole Koch (Jr., Longmont, Colo.) took second and third respectively (4:55.28 and 5:01.73).

The Boxers won five events, getting a pair of first places from Amanda Clark and Katie Porter (Fr., McMinnville) for the second straight day. Clark added a victory in the 1,650 freestyle (18:01.59) to go with her win in the 500 free, annihilating a six-year-old school record by besting Marya Hall's previous mark by nearly 17 seconds. Porter owned the sprint frees again with firsts in the 50 (24.87) and 100 (54.84).

The Pacific men took a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke as Michael Hargitt* (So., Oregon City, Ore.) swam to a first place finish (55.46) and Joel Cowley (Sr., Portland, Ore.) took second (56.63), with Dylan Cramer (Jr., Caldwell, Idaho) touching the wall in fourth place (59.38).

Hargitt also took second place in the 400 IM (4:23.49) and 100 breast (1:29.98), while Kramer Ichimura (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) finished second in the 200 free (1:48.76) and 100 butterfly (53.84).

Whitman junior Galen Sollom-Brotherton was a three-time winner, taking first both the 100 (48.19) and 1,650 freestyles (17:15.62). Sollom-Brotherton also broke a 17-year old school record, winning the 400 IM in 4:12.08. Karl Mering added a pair of firsts in the 200 free (1:46.75) and 100 butterfly (51.72) and swam a leg of the Missionaries' victorious 200 medley relay (1:38.59).

The Boxers will compete in a pair of two-day invitational meets before their next NWC dual, heading to the Northwest Invitational in McMinnville on Friday, Nov. 18 before taking part in the Oregon Open in Corvallis on Dec. 2-3.

The next conference dual will be the home opener for the Boxers as they entertain Puget Sound on Jan. 13.
