PARKLAND, WASH. – The Boxer men's soccer team was handed their first loss in a match against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes. The Northwest Conference's leading goal-scorer, Chad Kearns, scored for the Lutes to lift them to victory over Pacific.

Pacific (8-1-2) had three of their four shots on goal in the first 13 minutes of the match. Antonio Madeddu (So., Milwaukie, Ore.), Mike Iacolucci (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) and Patrick Murray (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) each had a shot on goal, but Pacific Lutheran's (5-5-1) goalkeeper Joe Rayburn was able to make the saves to keep Pacific from scoring.

To end the first half, the Lutes had three consecutive shots on goal, but goalkeeper Andrew Stevermer (Sr., Gillette, Wyo.) made the save each time to prevent Pacific Lutheran from taking the lead.

Heading into halftime the score was knotted at 0-0 and the Lutes had outshot the Boxers 6-4.

In the second half, Iacolucci had Pacific's last shot on goal of the match in the 48th minute, but Rayburn made the save to keep the Boxers off the board. Four minutes later, Kearns redirected a cross shot from Surafel Wodajo to score for the Lutes. The goal gave Pacific Lutheran a 1-0 lead.

Pacific had a chance to tie the match in the final minutes of play on a corner kick. They seemed to have scored when the ball rolled across the line following a battle for control of the ball after the corner kick. The goal was disallowed, however, because of hand ball. The Lutes' only goal was enough to defeat the Boxers 1-0.

Iacolucci led the Boxers with four shots and two shots on goal. Sean Mills (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) also contributed two shots.

The Boxers will travel to George Fox for a 2:30 p.m. match next Sunday.
