SPOKANE, Wash.— Despite holding an 18-7 shot advantage the Pacific men's soccer team could not score and battled the Whitworth Pirates to a 0-0 tie in double overtime.

Pacific's (11-2-3) defense was key in keeping the Pirates (8-5-2) from scoring throughout the 110-minutes of play. The Boxers only allowed Whitman seven shots and one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Andrew Stevermer (Sr., Gillette, Wyo.) made one save to collect his eighth shutout of the season.

Midway through the second overtime period, Jasem Jaihouni (Sr., Portland, Ore.) nearly put the game away for Pacific, but Whitworth goalkeeper Kyle Novak made a diving save to prevent Jaihouni's shot from finding the goal. The Pirates had the last two shots of the match, but could not convert. Justing Meyer's shot flew wide and Cameron Bushey's shot sailed high. After 110-minutes of play the match ended in a 0-0 tie.

Jaihouni and Patrick Murray (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) led Pacific with five shots apiece. Jaihouni and Sean Mills (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) each had two shots on goal.

With the tie and loss this weekend, Pacific falls to second place by one point in the Northwest Conference behind Pacific Lutheran. The Boxers will return home next Saturday to host the Lutes at 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park Stadium in a showdown for first place.
