FOREST GROVE – Michael Hargitt* (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) won three events and set another record Saturday, leading Pacific's individual efforts in a pair of close Northwest Conference swimming dual losses to Whitman at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center.

Hargitt set his second record in as many days, easy winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:14.02.  The time was a two-second improvement over the previous record of 2:16.02 set by Brandan Mantei in 2010.  The record performance was the third victory of the day for Hargitt, who earlier won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.41 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.71.  The trifecta led the Pacific men as they dropped a 128-77 dual meet decision to the Missionaries.

The Pacific women, meanwhile, saw their dual come down to the final two events.  Needing to win both, the Boxers received a near record-setting victory by Allison Clark (So., Keizer, Ore.) in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:30.84.  Pacific, however, could not get by a solid Whitman team in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing second to drop the meet by a final of 108-97.

Laura Ross (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) and Alex Bing* (Fr., Roseburg, Ore.) each won two events for the Boxers on the women's side.  Ross set a school record with her winning time in the 200-yard butterfly of 2:16.44.  The time bettered the mark of 2:20.31 set by teammate Nicole Koch (So., Longmont, Colo.) Ross was also a winner in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 5:29.06.

Bing claimed victory in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming 56.48 seconds. Clark also won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.16.  Bonnie Carroll (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) captured the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:22.60.

Dylan Cramer (So., Caldwell, Idaho) was the only other individual winner for the Boxers, leading a one-two finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.57.  Teammate Joel Cowley (Jr., Portland, Ore.) was second in 2:03.25.

Whitman received three individual victories in the close women's competition in addition to capturing both relays.  Charlotte Graham won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.32, Helen Jenne won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.88 seconds and Keller Hawkins captured the 200-yard backstroke in 2:18.80.

The Whitman men received individual victories from Chris Bendix in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:26.88), Jamie Nusse in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.99), Mitchell Lee in the 50-yard freestyle (22.69 seconds),and Kevin Dyer in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.34).

Pacific will wrap up the pre-Christmas Break portion of the schedule next weekend when they take part in the annual Northwest Invitational.  The two-day meet takes place next Friday and Saturday in Tacoma, Wash.
