Pacific Men Win Fifth Straight, Women Fall

PORTLAND, Ore.—The Pacific swimmers headed into their final Northwest Conference dual meet against Lewis & Clark on a four meet win streak, the men extended it to five with a 109-92 win, but the women fell 123-82.
Dylan Cramer (So., Caldwell, Idaho) paced the men, winning three individual events and Michael Hargitt* (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) added two first place finishes and a second place. Cramer won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races in 1:51.65 and 5:09.83, respectively and the 100-yard backstroke in the time of 56.48. Hargitt won in the 400-yard individual medley by 15 seconds, finishing in a time of 4:24.58. He also placed first in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.61 and second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.14.
Michael Simmonds (Fr., Sweet Home, Ore.) and Alejandro Contreras (Sr., Silverton, Ore.) also added an individual and relay first place finish for the Boxers. Simmonds won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:40.10 and Contreras was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.81. They were both joined by Ben Griffin (Sr., Tacoma, Wash.) and Damian Plancarte (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M.) in the winning 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 1:35.26.
For the women, Allison Clark (So., Keizer, Ore.) had two individual first place finishes and Laura Ross added one. Clark won the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:47.97 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.31. Ross claimed first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.99 and second in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races in 2:05.53 and 5:37.43, respectively.
The other women's first place finish came in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Alex Bing* (Fr., Roseburg, Ore.), Cherice Cochrane (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.), Nicole Koch (So., Longmont, Colo.) and Keely Craig (Fr., Federal Way, Wash.), which finished in a time of 1:57.77. Bing also added a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 57.61.
The men improved to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Northwest Conference, the women are 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the Northwest Conference.
The Boxers will have a three-week break before they compete again in the Northwest Conference Championships. The championships will be held at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore. on Feb. 25-27 starting at 10 a.m. each day.
