Boxers Use Solid Hitting To Split At Northwest Cup

GRESHAM, Ore. – Pacific used solid hitting from the top and bottom of the order to split their games at the Northwest Cup Tournament Saturday, beating the College of Idaho 10-2 in five innings before taking a 7-0 loss to Oregon Tech in softball action at Hood View Park.

The Boxers (4-1) received two hits apiece from Stephanie Vanoudenhaegen (Sr., Conrelius, Ore.) and Brooke Toy (Sr., Drain, Ore.) in the over the College of Idaho (4-5).  Vanoudenhaegen scored a run, while Toy scored once and had three runs batted in.

Pacific began from behind against the Coyotes, through, as they converted an error into an early run in the first inning.  The Boxers recovered, though with a five-run first of their own.  Vanoudenhaegen opened scoring by doubling and then scoring on a single by Chelsey Chamberlain (Jr., Grants Pass, Ore.).  Madison Collura (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Jordan Mittelsdorf (Jr., Boardman, Ore.) scored on errors and Toy singled to score Ashley Billingsley (Jr., Gresham, Ore.).

The Boxers added four more in the second, scoring two on Toy's single to center field that brought Billinglsey and Randee Layosa (Fr., Hanama'ulu, Hawaii) home.  Toy later scored on an error and Becca Moen (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) plated on a wild pitch.  Pacific then added one in the fourth when Jenna Stevens (Fr., Medford, Ore.) singled to score Mittelsdorf.

The College of Idaho scored their only run in the fifth as Caylin Lepire singled, brining home Kristen Haugen.

Rylee Parke (Fr., Dufur, Ore.) picked up her second win of the season, allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.  Britney Croner took the loss for the Yotes, allowing nine runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks in two innings of work.  The College of Idaho committed five errors in the contest.

In the second game of the day, the Boxers had problems hitting against Oregon Tech Division I transfer pitcher Jackie Imhof, who allowed just four hits and struck out 11 to earn the win.  Billingsley had the most success, going 2 for 3 in the contest.

The Hustlin' Owls (5-2) picked up all the runs in a five-run second inning.  Wheatley opened the frame with a single that scored Bree Larson.  Kayde Schaefer scored two on her single to right center field.  Two batters later, Jess Plummer hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored two more.  The Owls added two more in the fourth both coming on a single by Plummer.

Shannon Miller (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) took the loss for Pacific, allowing five runs on five hits with three walks in three innings of work.  Plummer's two hits and four runs batted in paced the Owls at the plate.

Pacific will now look ahead to the start of the Northwest Conference season.  The Boxers will travel south to take on Willamette in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
