Second Half Goal Helps Chapman Top Pacific In Home Opener
Box Score
FOREST GROVE—Coming off a two-overtime game the day before, Pacific fought for 90 minutes in a defensive battle, but came up short against the Chapman Panthers. Yet, Head Coach Morgan Crabtree can see improvement in her players over the Boxer's opening weekend.
In the first half, Pacific (0-1-1) outshot Chapman (2-0-0) 7-4. Outstanding defense prevented either team from being able to convert a shot into a goal and the score was 0-0 at halftime.
The second half also proved to be a tight defensive battle. The Panthers were able to take the lead on a penalty kick goal by Bridget Thomson after a Pacific foul. The rest of the half remained scoreless and Chapman took the victory.
The performance of goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann (So., Portland, Ore.) kept the score close throughout the game. Hartmann tallied nine total saves, while only allowing one goal. “Brittany was fantastic in the box,” said Crabtree. “Her performance kept the game close and gave us opportunities.”
“Today the defense was more organized and everyone seemed more confident,” states Crabtree. “Overall, it was a positive first weekend and we will continue to grow.”
The Boxers travel to Ashland, Ore. to take on Hope International at 11:00 a.m. next Saturday.
