George Fox Squeezes Past Boxers in NWC Opener

NEWBERG, ORE. – The Boxers came up short against the George Fox Bruins and took the 1-0 loss in the Northwest Conference opener.
Kirsten Cardwell scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute of the game from about ten yards out on an assist by Kassi Vanderkwaak, giving George Fox (2-1-2) a 1-0 advantage. After the goal, defense took over on both sides.
The Bruins held the Boxers (0-4-1) to no goals despite being outshot 14-3 in the first half.
The defensive battle continued into the second half, where Pacific again outshot George Fox 9-3, but was unable to convert the shot advantage into a goal. The Bruins early goal was enough to seal the 1-0 win.
Senior Jenny Novak (Dexter, Ore.) led Pacific with five shots and three shots on goal. Kaitlyn Harper (So., Oregon City, Ore.) added four shots and two shots on goal for the Boxers.
The Boxers will host Whitworth at 5 p.m. on Friday at Lincoln Park Stadium.
