Offense Stays Hot In Pacific Victory
Box Score
PORTLAND, ORE.—The Pacific women's soccer team had another strong offensive showing defeating the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 4-1 to go undefeated this weekend.
“We started off slow, but slowly started to build some rhythm,” said head coach Morgan Crabtree. “We proved we could score goals and we did it on somebody else's turf.”
Pacific (4-5-1) came off a three-goal performance yesterday against Pacific Lutheran and found the net four times today against Lewis & Clark (2-6-2).
The Boxers found the goal twice in the first half. The first came off the foot of Ashley Kanda (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii), who scored off a Kelsey Lockwood (So., Salt Lake City, Utah) pass in the 35th minute to give Pacific a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Mariah Schoniwitz (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) found the goal off a Jordan Bodily (Jr., Eagle, Idaho) assist to send the Boxers into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
In the first half, Pacific goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann (So., Portland, Ore.) made four saves to keep the Pioneers off the board and the Boxers outshot Lewis & Clark 8-6.
Jenny Novak (Sr., Dexter, Ore.) increased the lead for the Boxers by scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Her first goal came off a Kristen Dick (So., Auburn, Wash.) pass in the 53rd minute. After Novak's first goal put the Boxers up 3-0, Hartmann was relieved of goalkeeping duties for the first time this season. Freshman Kayla Davidson (Kailu, Hawaii) came in for the final 30 minutes of the match.
Novak found the goal for the second time in the 65th minute off of a corner kick to give Pacific a 4-0 lead. Lewis & Clark stayed off the board until the 86th minute when Catherine Kitts was able to slip a shot past Davidson to make the final score 4-1.
In the second half, Hartmann had one save before Davidson relieved her. Davidson had two saves in her first career appearance for Pacific and allowed just one goal in the 30 minutes of playing time.
The coaching staff was excited to see the improvement in the offensive play for the Boxers.
Assistant coach Dane Christian was pleased with the efforts of the freshman this weekend. "Their performances were great and they had some huge games."
The Boxers travel to Salem, Ore. to take on Willamette next Saturday at noon.
