SPOKANE, Wash.—The Pacific women's soccer team found themselves in the second double overtime match of the weekend against the Whitworth Pirates. The Boxers claimed a 2-1 victory in the second overtime period on a Jenny Novak (Sr., Dexter, Ore.) goal.

Five minutes and 48 seconds into the second overtime period, Novak redirected Jordan Bodily's (Jr., Eagle, Idaho) free kick to find the net. The goal gave Pacific (6-7-3) a 2-1 advantage and ended the match giving the Boxers the win.

“The team's performance today was nothing short of fantastic,” said assistant coach Dane Christinan. “They came in with tired legs from yesterday's double overtime match and found a way to win.”

The Boxers were first to put a goal on the board in the 31st minute on an unassisted Ashley Kanda (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii) goal. Pacific had a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

Whitworth (11-5-1) tied the match at 1-1 in the 87th minute when Allie Smith's header found the net. The Pacific defense kept the Pirates from scoring in the remainder of regulation and the overtime periods to seal the victory.

Brittany Hartmann (So., Portland, Ore.) made six total saves for Pacific.

The coaching staff was pleased with the efforts of their team this weekend. “Everyone contributed today,” said head coach Morgan Crabtree. “The team is starting to gel again.“

Pacific defeated Whitworth in their last meeting in overtime as well. Bryanna DeLima (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) scored in the first overtime period to give the Boxers a 1-0 win on Sept. 17.

“Whitworth is a tough team and is coached by a knowledgeable coach,” Christian states. “We have seen ups and downs this season, but have shown we are always capable of excellence. Today showed that.”

The Boxers will return home to play Lewis & Clark next Saturday at noon.
