Boxers Come Up Short In Opening Duals
FOREST GROVE—The Boxer men's wrestling team was unable to overcome lower weight forfeits to win their first dual meets of the season losing to Yakima Valley CC 24-18 and Southern Oregon 40-10. Six Boxers were able to claim individual wins.
Against Yakima Valley, Devan Silva (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) started to shift momentum to the Boxers when he opened up with a 3-1 decision win over Torrey Turner at 149-pounds to put three points on the board for the Boxers after forfeits at 125, 133 and 141 pounds. Kody Kramer (Sr., Oroville, Wash.) added another three points to the scoreboard for Pacific in his 13-6 decision over Chris Roe in the 157-pound weight class. Freshman Bruce Balcita (Myrtle Creek, Ore.) also got in on the action winning the Boxers third straight match when he won a 6-4 decision over Dylan Ford at 165 pounds.
Caleb Malychewski (Fr., Camas, Wash.) and Jared Bridgewater (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) added the final nine points to the board for the Boxers. At 184 pounds, Maylchewski won a 7-4 decision over Billy Monroe. Bridgewater added six points pinning Rico Paz in five minutes, 57 seconds. Despite collecting five wins, Pacific fell 24-18 to Yakima Valley.
Opening again with forfeits at 125, 133 and 141 pounds Pacific started in a 18-0 hole against Southern Oregon. Kramer and Chris Harlin (Fr., Issaquah, Wash.) were the only two Boxers to collect wins. Kramer tallied his second win of the night in a 15-3 major decision over Dalton Urutia at 157 pounds. Harlin accepted a win by forfeit at the 184-pound weight class. Pacific was defeated 40-10 by Southern Oregon.
The Boxers return to the mat at the Stoller Center next Saturday against Highline CC at 7:00 p.m.
