Boxers Fall Short Against Thunderbirds
FOREST GROVE—The Boxer men's wrestling team fell to Highline CC 24-9 in the final home dual of 2010. Freshmen Bruce Balcita (Myrtle Creek, Ore.) and Jared Bridgewater (Hillsboro, Ore.) picked up Pacific's two victories.
With no match at the 125-pound weight class, Pacific started the night behind 12-0 after having to forfeit at 133 and 141-pounds. The Thunderbirds then increased their lead to 22-0 after Jason Gray pinned Devan Silva (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) in 5:30 at 149-pouns and Eric Jones won a 9-0 decision over Kody Kramer (Sr., Oroville, Wash.) at 157-pounds.
The Boxers did not get on the board until Balcita won at 165-pounds. Balcita pinned Taylor Clark in six minutes, six seconds to put six points on the board to make the score 22-6. Following Balcita's pin, Highline's Casey Park squeezed by Caleb Malychewski (Fr., Camas, Wash.) to win a 3-2 decision.
At the 184-pound weight class, Jordan Branson (Sr., Sheridan, Ore.) lost a 8-2 decision to Caleb Padgett and Ron Neu followed at 197-pounds losing an 8-1 decision to Daren Fayber. Highline's lead had grown to 31-6 before Bridgewater ended the night with a 4-2 decision win over Viktor Ognoskie at 285-pounds to improve the score to 31-9.
The Boxers will head to Las Vegas, Nev. following finals week to wrestle in the Wartburg Desert Duals on Dec. 20.
