Boxers Split With Loggers
Results: Game 1 | Game 2
TACOMA, Wash.—The Boxers scored early to defeat Puget Sound 8-7 in the first game of the day, but fell 2-1 in the second game due to the game being shortened because of darkness.
After a two and a half hour rain delay, the Boxers (11-4, 7-4 NWC) came out swinging, putting at least a run on the board in the first four innings.
Stephanie Vanoudenhaegen (Sr., Cornelius, Ore.) started the game out reaching on an error and advanced to second on Becca Moen's (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) bunt single. Ashley Billingsley (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) brought Vanoudenhaegen home on her groundout and Rylee Parke (Fr., Dufur, Ore.) followed with a single up the middle to bring Moen home and increase the Pacific lead to 2-0.
The Boxers increased their lead in the top of the second by adding three more runs. Jordan Mittelsdorf (Jr., Boardman, Ore.) led-off with a single, Jenna Stevens (Fr., Medford, Ore.) was walked and Vanoudenhaegen singled to load the bases. Moen followed with a ground out to second base, but drove Mittelsdorf home. Chelsey Chamberlain (Jr., Grants Pass, Ore.) sent the ball to left center for a double and brought Stevens and Vanoudenhaegen home.
Mittelsdorf homered in the top of the third to increase the Pacific lead to 6-0, but Puget Sound (2-9, 2-5 NWC) cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs on two hits.
Pacific added their final two runs of the game in the fourth. Vanoudenhaegen collected another single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch and finally scored on Chamberlian's groundout. Moen was walked and came around to score on Parke's single to make the score 8-2.
The Loggers were able to hold the Boxers in the final three innings and slowly scratch away at the lead with a three-run sixth inning and then a two-run rally in the seventh inning.
Parke pitched 6.2 innings to collect her eighth win of the season, while Shannon Miller (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) gathered the last out to get her second save of the season.
In the second game, Puget Sound broke into the scoring column first taking advantage of a hit and a Pacific error to take the early 1-0 lead after one inning of play. Billingsley responded by hitting a game tying home run in the top of the second inning.
The Boxers notched two hits in the third inning, but the Loggers were able prevent Pacific from scoring a run. Puget Sound followed their strong defensive play scoring a run off two hits to take the 2-1 lead.
The remaining inning and a half the batters were set down in order, but the game was forced to end after 4.5 innings of play due to darkness and the Loggers took the 2-1 win.
Miller took the loss for Pacific allowing just three hits in four innings of work.
