Vaulters Lead Day For Boxers At L&C Spring Break Open

PORTLAND – Pole vaulters led the way for the Pacific track and field teams Saturday as the Boxers won both the men's and women's side of the events to lead efforts at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open, held at the Eldon Fix Track.
John Fredericks (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) won the pole vault in the men's competition, clearing the bar at 13 feet, 3 inches. Kasey Fisher (So., Denair, Calif.) won the women's section with her mark of 10 feet, 5 inches.
The two victories led a strong day for the Boxers despite the team sending their top point scorers south to the Oregon Preview. The Pacific men finished fourth of 19 teams, compiling a score of 61 points. The women finished fifth in the 13-team field with a score of 69 points.
In addition to her win in the pole vault, Fisher took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.50 seconds. Teammate Chloe Hallyburton (So., Dayton, Ore.) amassed a pair of second place finishes and a fourth. The sophomore finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 9 inches, and was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.10 to earn a spot at the Northwest Conference Championships in the event. Hallyburton finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.24 seconds.
The Pacific women also received fourth place finishes from Nicole Smith (Sr., Wailuku, Hawaii) in the 400 meters in 1:02.72, and Lauren Barnard (Jr., Lyons, Colo.) in the 800 meters in 2:25.95. Both times are season bests.
On the men's side, both
Aaron Koford (Fr., Wilsonville, Ore.) and Ryan Culp (Jr., Woodburn, Ore.) earned NWC Championships qualifying marks in the discus. Koford finished third with a mark of 133 feet, 10 inches, while Culp was just behind in fourth with a mark of 133 feet, 7 inches. In addition, the men's 400-meter relay team of Tony Lam (Sr., Portland, Ore.), Davis Jacobs (Fr., Tigard, Ore.), Cameron Yip (Fr., Waihe'e, Hawaii) and Vince Mull (So., Beaverton, Ore.) placed third in a time of 45.06 seconds.
The Boxers will take the final weekend of Spring Break off from competition. The Boxers return to the oval on Fri., Apr. 1, when they participate in the Willamette Invitational.
