LOS ANGELES – Pacific rallied from three goals down in the second half to force overtime in their southern California game Thursday night, but Occidental came up big in the overtime periods to knock off the Boxers 13-12 in women's lacrosse action at Patterson Field.

After coming out ahead 4-3 after the first 30 minutes, the Boxers (6-2) found themselves trailing the Tigers (2-5) by three goals late in the second half. Natalie Getchell (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) led four goal scoring run for the Boxers with under 10 minutes left to give Pacific an 11-10 lead, but Haley Gandsey scored the tying strike with a minute to go and would later score that became the game-winning goal in the first overtime period.

Getchell and Kelly Stevens (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each scored four goals to lead the Boxers, while Kaitlyn Harper (So., Oregon City, Ore.) added three. Tori Larson led Occidental with four goals while Gandsey and Lauren Wemple each tallied three.

The Boxers came out on top of a very closely contested first half, but would have to come from behind to secure a halftime lead. Stevens opened scoring for the Pacific just over four minutes into the period off of a Monica Smith (Jr., Wilsonville, Ore.) assist, but the Tigers came back to score the next two goals and took a 2-1 lead on Toni Larson's goal with 15:27 left in the half.

Pacific and Occidental traded strikes before the Boxers closed the half with two goals in the final 70 seconds. Stevens scored unassisted with 1:08 left and Harper tallied on a free position goal with two seconds left to give Pacific a 4-3 halftime lead.

Occidental came out with some tiger blood in the second half, scoring the first three goals of the stanza and four of the first five. Larson gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead at the 25:48 mark and Isabel Osgood-Roach made it a two-goal lead with her strike with 23:45 to go. The Boxers came back within one goal twice, when Getchell connected with 21:05 to go and Harper connected with 19:39 left. Wemple, however, came back to score the next two goals, the last coming with 12:02 to go, that gave Occidental a 9-6 lead.

As they have in past games, Pacific proved that a three-point lead was not enough to keep them down. With the score 10-7, Smith connected with 8:07 to go, which started a string of four unanswered goals over the next six minutes. Getchell tied the contest with her strike at the 5:54 mark and then gave the Boxers the 11-10 lead with her free position goal. Occidental's Gandsey came right back to score on their next possession, tying the game at 11-11 and forcing overtime.

Pacific went scoreless in the first three-minute overtime period while the Tigers put together two goals quickly. Larson gave Oxy the lead just a minute in and Gandsey tallied halfway through for a 13-11 lead. Getchell tallied what would be the last goal of the game with 1:35 left in the second overtime period. Stevens had a chance for a free position attempt to tie it with 35 seconds left, but turned the ball over and Occidental proceeded to run out the clock.

Brittany Hartmann (So., Portland, Ore.) made 13 saves in the loss for the Boxers, while Kylie McPherson made 12 stops for Occidental.

Pacific continues its southern California trip on Friday night, playing the second of three games against Whittier. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
