Boxers Fall to Missionaries at NWC Tournament

WALLA WALLA, Wash.—In the semifinals of the Northwest Conference tournament, the Boxers never gained the momentum needed to overcome the No. 22 Whitman Missionaries and fell 5-0.

Whitman (15-6, 12-0 NWC) started the match taking all three doubles matches from the Boxers (8-9, 7-5 NWC).

At the No. 1 spot, Troy Zurokse (Fr., Richland, Wash.) and Spencer Hing (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) fell 8-4 to Andrew LaCava and Conor Holton-Burke.

Pacific dropped the final two doubles matches 8-2. Scott Kawamura (So., Aiea, Hawaii) and Michael Okada (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) were defeated by Etienne Moshevich and Jeff Tolman at the No. 2 flight, while Patrick Kinghorn (Sr., Salem, Ore.) and Alen Suklje (Fr., Portland, Ore.) lost to Matt Tesmond and Quin Miller at the No. 3 position.

Only two singles matches were completed before Whitman claimed the 5-0 victory.

Hing dropped a 6-3, 6-0 match to LaCava at the No. 2 position and at the No. 3 spot, Okada fell 6-1, 6-1 to Moshevich.

Once the team decision was settled, the remaining matches ended at were left unfinished.

At the time the match ended, Zuroske was down 6-4, 1-2 to Holton-Burke at the No. 1 spot and Kawamura was down 7-5 (7-1), 5-1 at the No. 4 position to Tolman.

In the No. 5 and No. 6 flights, Eric Furuya (Jr., Portland, Ore.) was scheduled to play Sam Sadeghi and Suklje was paired against Adriel Broshansky, but the matches were never started.

The Boxers finished in fourth in the NWC standings with a 7-5 record and played in their first NWC tournament since 2004.

Pacific will play the final match of their season against the University of Oregon on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Eugene, Ore.
