NEWBERG, Ore. – Nicole Smith (Jr., Wailuku, Hawaii) placed in three events Friday as the 2011 Pacific track and field season concluded with the George Fox Last Chance Meet, held at Colcord Field.
Smith, who competed in the javelin for the first time last week at the West Coast Invitational's heptathlon, placed fourth in the small meet meant to serve as a last chance qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships. Her mark of 106 feet, 8 inches, is the best by a Pacific athlete this season.
Smith also finished with a season best in the long jump, placing third with a leap of 16 feet, 7.25 inches. She completed her day with a second place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 13.08 seconds.
Smith was the only Pacific athlete to place in the meet. Avery Neal (Jr., Los Alamos, N.M.) made the start list in the men's 800 meters, but did not finish.
