FOREST GROVE – A strong sophomore season on the track, on the field and in the classroom for Chloe Hallyburton (So., Dayton, Ore.) has been rewarded with selection to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division Cross Country/Track & Field Second Team.
Hallyburton was one of just three sophomores named to the team, which honors the top academic performers in a region comprised of nine western states and two Canadian provinces. Hallyburton has compiled a cumulative 4.00 grade point average while majoring in exercise science and minoring in Spanish.
“It's awesome for Chloe to receive this recognition,” said Pacific Head Track and Field Coach Tim Boyce. “She is a very talented and hard-working individual and we're so pleased for her.”
Hallyburton qualified for the Northwest Conference Track & Field Championships in both the 400-meter hurdles and the high jump. She finished in a tie for 14th place in the high jump with the clearance of 4 feet, 5 inches, and 13th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time in a season best of 1:12.41. Hallyburton also competed in the Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships, placing ninth with a total of 3,090 points. It was only the second heptathlon of her career.
Hallyburton finished the year with season bests of 4 feet, 9.75 inches in the high jump and 1:12.41 in the 400-meter hurdles. In addition to her commitment to the track and field program, she is also involved with pre-physical therapy club and plays French horn in the Pacific Symphonic Band and Pacific Orchestra.
The Capital One Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams are nominated and voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for selection to the team, a nominee must be a starter or important reserve on their team, be of sophomore standing, have attended the nominating institution for at least one academic year and carry a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
Those named to the District VIII College Division Team are selected from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and junior colleges from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory.
