Boxers Gain Split To Complete Trip To Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Pacific completed their trip to New York with a split Saturday, falling in five sets to a tough Millikin squad before dispatching St. Joseph's (N.Y.) in three sets in their final day at the Oneonta Invitational.
Following the tournament,
Kelsy Takashima (Sr., Kaunakakai, Hawaii) and
Alexa Block (Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Takashima finished with a solid stat line of 36 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, 18 aces, 16 digs and 21 blocks in the four matches. Block was equally as impressive, finishing with 58 kills, a .228 hitting percentage, eight aces, 29 digs and two blocks.
The Boxers come home from the Empire State with a 3-1 record, their best start since the 2009 season.
MILLIKIN DEF. PACIFIC 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 27-29, 15-9: Pacific put up a strong fight against a talented Millikin team, coming back from two sets down to force a fifth and deciding set. The Boxers persevered through a tough fourth set, needing extra points to move the match to the fifth frame.
Block finished with an impressive double-double of 22 kills and 11 digs. Takashima added 13 kills and five blocks while
Keahi Braginsky-Ahloo (So., Wahiawa, Hawaii) added a double-double of 12 kills and 19 digs. Pacific finished the match hitting .167 as a team.
Both Pacific setters also came away with double-doubles.
Malea Webb (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) finished 25 assists and 11 digs, while
Gabriela Vega (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) had 17 assists and 10 digs. Starting libero jade Thompson (Jr., Marysville, Wash.) added a team-high 32 digs.
Audrey Krajec led the Big Blue (4-0) with 16 kills and five blocks. Kelsy England, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, finished with 14 kills.
PACIFIC DEF. ST. JOSEPH'S 25-12, 25-18, 25-21: Despite the preceding marathon match with Millikin, the Boxers had plenty in the tank to take care of St. Joseph's in three sets. Pacific benefited from solid hitting once again, finishing the match with a .244 percentage.
Braginsky-Ahloo led the way for Pacific with 11 kills while Block contributed nine kills. Thompson added 16 digs while both Webb and Vega had 14 assists.
Pacific returns to Forest Grove for their first home match of the season on Tuesday. They will host Concordia (Ore.) at 6 p.m. The Boxers will hit the road after that for one more tournament, taking part in the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational in Thousand Oaks, Calif., next weekend.
