Baxter Gets Win As Boxers Fall To Southern Oregon
ASHLAND, Ore. –
Ryan Baxter (Fr., Craig, Alaska) claimed the lone victory for Pacific in the first of two match-ups with perennial rival Southern Oregon Saturday as the No. 2 (NAIA) ranked Raiders cruised to a 41-3 win in men's wrestling action at Riehm Arena.
Baxter broke a string of two falls to open the match with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Brad Tamashiro at 141 pounds. The victory, though, was not enough to knock the high-powered Raiders off their stride as they finished the night with three pins and a technical fall. Southern Oregon improved to 6-2 in dual matches this season while the Boxers dropped to 3-7.
The Boxers found themselves in a 12-0 deficit to open the match after Mitchell Lofstedt pinned
Zach Binkerd (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) in the 125-pound match and Miguel Baltazar pinned
Eric Harder (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) in the 133-pound bout. After Baxter's victory, Travis Patrick returned the Raiders to the win column with an 8-1 decision over Devin Silva (So., Spokane, Wash.) and Dalton Urrutia made it a 21-3 lead with the Raiders' third pin of the gay, beating
Michael Tyner (Fr., Aloha, Ore.) at 157.
Southern Oregon received three wins by decision in the final five matches from Brian Lemmon at 165 pounds, Derek Rottenberg at 197 pounds and Bubba Owens at heavyweight, who did just enough to out-distance
Jared Bridgewater (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) 4-1. The Raiders claimed a forfeit at 174 pounds and Austin Vanderford added bonus points with a 17-2 technical fall over
Caleb Malychewski (So., Camas, Wash.) at 184 pounds.
After wrestling 11 straight dual matches, the Boxers will return to the tournament setting. Pacific will compete at the Clackamas Community College Open next Saturday in Oregon City.
