FOREST GROVE – The Pacific swim teams returned to Northwest Conference dual meet competition Friday with a pair of close losses to visiting Puget Sound at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center.

The Logger women got a key win in the 100 breaststroke and a third place finish from their 200 Freestyle “B” relay team to squeak past the Boxers 109-96. The Logger men recorded a 129-73 victory over the Boxers.

Pacific's day was highlighted by another strong effort from Amanda Clark (Fr., Olympia, Wash.). Clark broke the 18-minute barrier in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle for the second time this season, finishing with a first place time of 17:58.68. Clark is the only NWC swimmer to break 18-minutes in the 1650 Free this season.

The Loggers women led off the meet with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:56.14), but closed the meet with a dramatic first place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a second and third place finish in the final 200 Free Relay to pull off the team win.  Jessica Jaynes edged Pacific's Allison Clark (Jr., Keizer, Ore.) by less than two-tenths of a second to win the 100 Breast in 1:10.84 for a critical 10 point swing. While Pacific's 200 Free relay team of Kristine Valdez* (Jr., Poulsbo, Wash.), Alexandria Bing (So., Roseburg, Ore.), Amber Chase (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) and Katherine Porter (Fr., McMinnville, Ore.) took first place (1:42.50), the Loggers two relay teams came in second and third in the final event of the day.

Amanda Clark added first place finishes in the 100 Free (55.80) and 500 Free (5:19.76). Since the beginning of the dual meet schedule, Clark has won every individual event but one, finishing second to Porter in the 100 Free at Whitman on Nov. 12. Porter took first place in the 50 Free (25.58), but came in second to Puget Sound's Melissa Norrish in the 200 Free (1:59.10 to 2:01.12). Norrish also secured a win in the 100 Butterfly (1:00.39) for the Loggers. Allison Clark added Pacific's other first place in the 400 Individual Medley, finishing in 4:48.24 as teammate Stacie Struble (Fr., Albany, Ore.) followed in second place (4:56.48)

Michael Hargitt* (So., Oregon City, Ore.) led the Boxer men with a pair of first place finishes, leading the way in the 400 IM (4:23.28) and 100 Breast (1:02.75). Puget Sound got a pair of firsts from Derek Frenzel (1,650 Free and 100 Fly) and Aleksandar Jeremikj (200 Free and 100 Free). Jeremikj also swam the lead leg for the first place 200 Free Relay team as the Loggers swept both relay events.
