SALEM – Six days after the Pacific women's swim team won its first Northwest Conference dual meet of the year, it was time for the Boxer men to enter the winner's circle.
Both teams would enjoy the thrill of victory as the Boxers swept Willamette, with the men winning 119
-66 and the women cruising to a 122-60 victory to even their dual meet record at 3-3.
Michael Hargitt* (So., Oregon City, Ore.) was a three-time winner for the Boxer men (1-4 NWC, 2-4 overall), taking first in the 50 Yard Freestyle (23.53), 200 Butterfly (2:11.88) and 200 Breaststroke (2:24.09).
Damian Lopez Plancarte (So., Albuquerque, N.M.) added a pair of first places, taking top honors in the 200 Free (1:56.37) and 100 Free (53.50) with his best times of the season in each event.
The Boxer men opened the meet with a win the 400 Free Relay with
Joel Cowley (Sr., Portland, Ore.), Aiden Lindsey (Fr., Portland, Ore.),
Kramer Ichimura (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) and
Spencer Chandler* (Fr., Weiser, Idaho) beating Willamette by nearly six seconds in 3:55.06. Ichimura added a first place individual finish in the 200 Individual Medley (2:06.24).
Alexandria Bing (So., Roseburg, Ore.) had a big day for the Boxer women (2-3, 3-3) with two individual first places along with a contribution to Pacific's winning 400 Free Relay. Bing won the 50 Free (27.12) and 100 Free (58.94) and combined with
Kristine Valdez* (Jr., Poulsbo, Wash.),
Amber Chase (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) and
Keely Craig (So., Federal Way, Wash.) to finish the relay in 4:22.78, 11.36 seconds ahead of Willamette.
While Bing took over the sprints,
Katie Porter (Fr., McMinnville, Ore.) entered the 200 backstroke and won convincingly in 2:21.17, more than 10 seconds ahead of Willamette's Laura Coddington. Porter also took on the 200 IM for the first time along with fellow frosh freestyle ace
Amanda Clark (Fr., Olympia, Wash.). Clark continued her winning streak, beating Porter by 7.68 seconds (2:18.60) before adding another first place in the 500 Free (5:16.21).
While their dominant freestylers eased into other events, the Boxer women showcased their depth in that discipline, taking first, second and fourth in the 50 and sweeping the top three spots in the 100, with Valdez (59.97) and Craig (1:00.96) following behind Bing.
Allison Clark (Jr., Keizer, Ore.) won the 200 Free going away in 2:05.77, more than seven seconds ahead of Willamette's Kersey Bars.
Willamette got first place swims on the men's side from Alexander Le Bel in the 1000 Free (11:09.03) and Sean Piper in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.40). The Bearcat women got first place in two events, but Pacific did not enter swimmers eligible to score in either the 200 Breast or the 400 Free Relay.
The Boxers return to action Saturday at Forest Grove Aquatic Center with an NWC dual meet against Linfield at 1:00 p.m.
