FOREST GROVE – The Pacific Boxers swim teams will roll into the Northwest Conference championships on a winning streak.
Earning their third consecutive NWC dual meet sweep, the Boxers swam past Lewis & Clark Saturday at Forest Grove Aquatic Center and now begin the tapering process for the NWC championship meet in two weeks.
For the Boxers' women, it was a fourth consecutive win, as they close out the dual meet season with a 4-3 mark, 5-3 overall after a 130-72 victory over the Pioneers. The Boxer men won 108-89, coming out on top for the third consecutive dual.
Amanda Clark (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) led the Pacific effort with three individual first places, while
Michael Hargitt* (So., Oregon City, Ore.),
Kramer Ichimura (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) and
Allison Clark (Jr., Keizer, Ore.) each won two individual events and participated in a victorious 400 Yard Medley Relay.
The Boxers began the meet by sweeping the 400 Medley relays, the women's team of Clark,
Kristine Valdez* (Jr., Poulsbo, Wash.),
Stacie Struble (Fr., Albany, Ore.) and Alexandria Bing (So., Roseburg, Ore.) finishing in 4:19.50, nearly ten seconds ahead of the Lewis & Clark “A” team. Struble added a first place in the 200 Freestyle (2:03.92) and Clark notched first place times in the 200 Individual Medley and 200 Breaststroke (2:33.64).
Amanda Clark swam to first place finishes in the 1000 Free (10:51.97) and 500 Free (5:17.63), adding a 200 Butterfly title to her tally (2:14.01). Clark's fly time was a five second personal record and established yet another new Pacific record, beating topping
Laura Ross's two-year old record by more than two seconds. Clark has now set five individual school records this season, while swimming in two record-setting relays.
With Clark locking down the distance frees and
Katie Porter (Fr., McMinnville, Ore.) picking up her usual pair of wins in the sprints (25.02 in the 50, 55.77 in the 100), the Boxers showed off their depth in the freestyle by sweeping the top three places in the 200 Free with neither Clark nor Porter participating. Struble took first with her best time of the year (2:03.92), followed by
Amber Chase (Fr., Tigard, Ore.)(2:06.59) and Valdez (2:08.38).
Ichimura brought home first place in the 200 Free (1:49.12) and cruised to a six-and-a-half second win in the 200 Fly (2:02.09). Hargitt splashed to first place in the 200 IM (2:06.54) and the 200 breaststroke, winning both events by a considerable distance (seven seconds and 19 seconds respectively). Both swimmers joined
Aidan Lindsey (Fr., Portland, Ore.) and
Spencer Chandler* (Fr., Weiser, Idaho) to lead the Boxer 400 Medley Relay team to a first place finish (3:51.78), again, well out in front of the competition by nearly 15 seconds.
Noah Boring and Trevor Schapiro led the way for the Lewis & Clark men. Boring raced to first place finishes in the 50 Free (23.08) and 100 Free (51.30) and took the lead leg on the Pioneers' 400 Free Relay team that provided the most dramatic finish of the night, nipping the Boxer quartet of Plancarte (So., Albuquerque, N.M.), Chandler,
Dylan Cramer (Jr., Caldwell, Idaho) and
Joel Cowley (Sr., Portland, Ore.) by .06 seconds to finish in 3:27.47. Schapiro swam to first place finishes in the 500 (5:05.59) and 1000 Free (10:39.01).
Lewis & Clark's Women's 400 Free Relay also took first (4:00.38) with lead swimmer Taylor Coiner collecting their only individual first place with a win in the 200 Backstroke (2:17.46).
