Hartmann Saves Not Enough As Pioneers Shutout Boxers
Box Score
FOREST GROVE –
Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) collected seven saves between the pipes, but was not enough to help the Pacific women's soccer team as Lewis & Clark shutout the Boxers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Park Stadium.
"We were very pleased with Brittany's performance," said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph. "She was remarkably in the zone and conscious of her positioning, kept her feet moving, and made some good saves."
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers (5-7-2, 5-4-2 NWC) opened the scoring in the 52
nd minute when Anna Thorndike crossed to Traci Nakamura, who shot from inside the six-yard box past Hartmann for the game-winning goal.
The Boxers shot nine times for the match, six coming in the second half. Their best opportunity coming in the 80
th minute when Lewis & Clark goalkeeper Geena Fong came outside the six-yard box, going after the ball.
Sarah Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) reached the ball first to shoot past Fong, but shot wide to the right of the goal.
"All in all, if we start, continue, and finish games the way we end them - with vigor and the sense to do the right things - we will be successful," said Joseph. "But right now, we're only playing for a few minutes at a time."
Anna Richardson (So., Napa, Calif.) led the Boxers with three shots. Hartmann (4-5-3) collected the loss between the pipes.
Fong recorded her sixth victory in the net, tallying three saves.
"
Lyndsey Watanabe continues to be Ms. Reliable," said Joseph. "We can virtually put her anywhere and guarantee a solid performance."
The Boxers (5-6-3, 3-6-1 NWC) travel to eastern Washington to take on Whitworth and Whitman next weekend. Both matches begin at noon.
