Pirates Use Overtime To Shutout Boxers

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific women's soccer team could not find the back of the net as they only shot five times as Whitworth shutout the Boxers 1-0 in the first overtime period on Saturday afternoon at Whitworth's soccer field.
With less than three minutes left in the first overtime period, Whitworth's Carly Schilperoort took the corner kick for the Pirates, crossing to Hannah Bokma, who headed the ball past
Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) to score the game-winning goal.
With only three shots in the first half, the Boxers had their best opportunity to score in the 18
th minute when
McKenna Davidson (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii) fired, but was saved by Whitworth goalkeeper Andrea Stump. The Boxer's other two shots for the first half were ruled wide.
The Boxer's best shot in the second half came in 81
st minute when
Lyndsey Watanabe (Fr., Waipahu, Hawaii) fired, but was once again saved by Stump. The Boxers attempted to score in the 94
th minute, but
Anna Richardson's (So., Napa, Calif.) shot was blocked.
Richardson and Davidson recorded two shots a piece for the Boxers. Hartmann (4-6-3) collected the loss between the pipes, tallying six saves. Stump collected the victory in the net for the Pirates, tallying two saves.
The Boxers (5-7-3, 3-7-1 NWC) continue their eastern Washington trip tomorrow on Sunday against Whitman. The match begins at noon.
