FOREST GROVE – McKenna Davidson (Fr., Kailue, Hawaii) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to secure a 2-1 victory over the Willamette Bearcats in Northwest Conference action at Lincoln Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“It was in our minds the best total game performance of Morgan and I's tenure here at Pacific,” said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph. “They possessed with a purpose and executed the game plan perfectly. Days like this will live in our minds forever; but our job is to go out and try to replicate it immediately, and that's our aim for tomorrow.”

After a save by Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.), Caitlin Castillo (Fr., Eugene, Ore.), playing for the first time this season due to injury, crossed to Davidson in the last few minutes in the first overtime period. Davidson fired to the back of the net from the five-yard box.

“When we first saw Castillo play four years ago, we immediately knew she would be a difference-maker on the pitch with her technical ability and supreme leadership skill,” said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph.

The Boxers opened the scoring in the 47th minute when Anna Richardson (So., Napa, Calif.) crossed to Sarah Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.), who fired from inside the five-yard box.

“Sarah and Anna combined to score one of the best goals I have witnessed,” said Joseph. “Anna's inch-perfect cross and Sarah's full volley could not have been executed any better then they were. Most importantly, their total ability on the ball is mouth-watering as it always leaves you wondering what's next.”

Willamette tied the match up at 1-1 in the 63rd minute on a goal by Sarah Desautels. She shot from the left from 20 yards out.

Hartmann collected the victory between the pipes collecting eight saves. Emily Tuffey (So., Valencia, Calif.) led the Boxers with five shots, pacing the offense along with Chandler Bowen. Nicole Price took the loss in the net for the Bruins, tallying six saves.

“A huge kudos to Chandler who executed the game plan today in a completely new position for her,” said Joseph. “We had many discussions about how to get her maximum potential out, given her unique and special skill-set. She and Emily were a handful and more for Willamette to deal with.”

The Boxers (5-3-3, 3-3-1 NWC) play host to the Puget Sound Loggers tomorrow on Sunday. The match will begin at noon.
