Boxers Lose In Overtime To Loggers
BOX SCORE
FOREST GROVE – After winning yesterday at the end of the first over time period, the Pacific women's soccer team took a tough 1-0 loss in the first minute and a half of the first overtime period to Puget Sound at Lincoln Park Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Puget Sound (7-3-1, 6-1-1 NWC) scored in the 91
st minute when Kylie Beeson found Theresa Henle on a corner kick. Henle headed the ball from four yards out, past
Kayla Davidson (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) to claim the victory over the Boxers.
“ We are so very proud of these young women and how they stepped up this weekend,” said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph. “To be quite honest, we are all disappointed in today's result, but we are so happy to see our girls have success on the field. This team has loads of potential; it's just up to us now to continue to put together performances like today and yesterday's everyday that we play or practice.”
The Boxers had opportunities to score, with their best attempt coming from
Emily Tuffey (So., Valencia, Calif.) when she fired in the 81
st minute, but was shut down by Puget Sound goalkeeper Kara Merfeld.
Kaitlyn Harper (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) also had an opportunity, but once again was saved by Merfeld.
“A huge part of our success was how mentally prepared but relaxed we were,” said Joseph. “The girls were dancing and having a blast and enjoying the experience. Very reminiscent of the great Brazilian samba teams in the past.”
Chandler Bowen (So., Silverdale, Wash.) led the Boxers in the forward position with three shots. Harper was right behind with two shots. Davidson (1-1-0), making her second start of the season, collected the loss between the pipes tallying four saves.
“A huge kudos to Kayla for stepping into the fray and having a tremendous game,” said Joseph. “Her decision making and saves were sublime and helped us battle throughout.”
The Boxers (5-4-3, 3-4-1 NWC) travel to George Fox on Wednesday to play under the lights for more Northwest Conference action. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
