FOREST GROVE – Caleb Malychewski (Jr., Camas, Wash.) opened the 2012-13 Pacific men's wrestling season on a roll Sunday, bouncing back from a first round loss to capture third place and lead the Boxers at the season-opening Mike Clock Open, held at the Stoller Center.

Pacific's winningest wrestler during the 2011-12 season, Malychewski dropped a heartbreaking 7-5 overtime loss to Oregon State's Brian Engdahl in the opening round of the 184-pound bracket.  The junior would not lose again, winning five straight matches to claim the consolation championship.  Malychewski engaged Engdahl in a rematch in the consolation semifinal and left nothing to chance, rolling over the competition in a 14-3 major decision.  He finished the day with a 4-3 decision over the Beavers' John Tuck.

Malychewski's performance led a day that saw Dillon Ford (So., Montesano, Wash.) capture fourth place in the 157-pound weight class and saw five Pacific wrestlers win at least two matches.

Wrestling in his first matches in a Pacific singlet, Ford advanced to the semifinals at 157 pounds thanks to a 2-1 decision over Highline CC's Hackeem Smith in the second round and a 6-4 win over Clackamas CC's Richard Quesada in the quarterfinals.  The championship bracket run ended with a first round pin by the defending Pac-12 champion at 157 pounds, Oregon State's R.J. Pena.

Ford rebounded to score an 11-5 decision over the Beavers' Toney Chay before dropping a 12-0 major decision to Southwestern Oregon's Bryce McMahon in the consolation final.

Eric Harder (So., Bethesda, Md.) just missed advancing to the consolation semifinals in the 133-pound bracket.  After a first round pin of Highline CC's Jake Portes, Harder took a 10-0 major decision to Clackamas CC's Fortino Sanchez.  Harder rebounded with two straight wins in the consolation bracket, including a pin of Highline CC's Garcia Nicolas, before bowing out in an 11-0 major decision loss to Oregon State's Anthony Harris in the consolation quarters.

Will Patrick (Fr., Sitka, Alsaka) also won three matches in his Pacific debut at 141 pounds.  He opened his Boxers' career with 19-3 technical fall of Clackamas CC's A.J. Ballard and took consolation rounds matches with a technical fall over teammate Shawn Speer (Fr., Battle Ground, Wash.) and a 7-4 decision over Quesada.

Oregon State, the state' only Division I wrestling program, claimed championships in every weight class from 133 pounds to 285 pounds and placed 22 wrestlers in the top four as nearly their entire roster made the trip to Forest Grove.  Simon Fraser's Skylor Davis claimed the 125 pound title, winning a 3-0 decision over Southwestern Oregon's Michael Nguyen.

Pacific will return to action next weekend, taking part in the Southern Oregon Open.  The tournament takes place Saturday and Sunday at Southern Oregon University's Bob Riehm Arena in Ashland.
