ASHLAND, Ore. –
Eric Harder (So., Bethesda, Md.) and
Caleb Malychewski (Jr., Camas, Wash.) combined for four pins Sunday as the two Pacific wrestlers won their weight classes at the Southern Oregon Open, held Saturday and Sunday at Bob Riehm Arena.
Harder scored pins in all three of his bouts to cruise to the championship at 133 pounds. He opened the day with a 4 minute, 48 second pin of Urmas Yanis of Clackamas CC, and then added a second round fall over Salazar of the West Hills Wrestling Club. The championship match proved to be his easiest as he needed just 2:13 to pin Luke Zeiger of Great Falls to claim the title.
Malychewski needed just two matches to claim the crown at 184 pounds. He opened with a 4-0 shutout over Anderson of the West Hills Wrestling Club before dispatching Adam Wolfe of Great Falls with a 2:20 pin in the final.
Bruce Balcita (Jr., Myrtle Creek, Ore.) wrestled to a fourth place finish in the 165-pound bracket. He won his opening match with an 11-1 major decision over Rhett Breed of Southern Oregon before dropping his final two, including the third place bout to D. Galli by a 4-1 margin.
The Boxers will enjoy a Thanksgiving week off from competition. They return to the mat on Sun., Dec. 2, with their first dual matches of the season as they host Highline CC and Simpson (Calif.).
