Loggers Shutout Boxers To Claim NWC Title In Season Finale
Box Score
TACOMA, Wash. –
Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) tallied six saves in her final match in a Boxer uniform, but was not enough as the Pacific women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Puget Sound in their final match of the 2012 campaign on Sunday afternoon at East Field.
“It was a good game of soccer today,” said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph. “We stuck to the game plan very well but were beaten by three fantastic goals. Sometimes you just can't keep everything out.”
With the win, the Loggers (14-4-1, 13-2-1 NWC) claimed the Northwest Conference title, their 11
th in a row. The Loggers opened the scoring in the 37
th minute when Haley Rosenburg scored from 20 yards out to the upper right of the net past Hartmann.
In the 48
th minute, Jordyn McLuen and Robin Vieira crossed to Theresa Henle, who shot from the top of the box over Hartmann to increase the Logger lead to 2-0. The Loggers scored their third goal of the match in the 61
st minute when Rosenburg received a cross from Lauren Hamilton to put back a rebound shot in the net.
The final goal of the match was scored in the 83
rd minute, when Sierra Grunwald crossed to Henle for her second goal of the match. “The last goal was our error, but overall we could not be happier with these girls,” Joseph said.
The Boxers only shot three times for the entire match. The first shot came in the 19
th minute.
Kailee Green (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) shot but was blocked. The second shot came in the 55
th minute when
Sarah Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) fired, but was also blocked. Less than 30 seconds later, Tuffey fired again, but this time it was too wide.
“We had a squad of 14 for the entire weekend and went double overtime yesterday,” said Joseph. “It was truly tremendous display of heart and integrity. It is unfortunate that the box score favored them throughout, but we fought the best we could today given the circumstances.”
Tuffey led the Boxers with her two shots. Hartmann (6-7-3) collected the loss between the pipes. Casey Thayer recorded the win in the net, tallying no saves.
The match marked the final match for four seniors on the 2012 Pacific squad.
Kaitlyn Harper (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.),
Kristen Dick (Sr., Auburn, Wash.), Hartmann and Tuffey have played all four years in the Pacific program.
“I am personally distraught that our seniors are done now,” Joseph said of the four seniors. “We (the coaches) wish to personally thank them for all of their hard work and effort put into this program. Each one of them has added some unique and special and for that our program is in a special place headed into next year.”
