Boxers Suffer First Loss In Overtime

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team's undefeated streak has come to an end as the Boxers fell 50-47 in overtime to UC Santa Cruz Tuesday evening at West Field House Complex.
 
Heather Hitch (Sr., Enumclaw, Wash.) led the Boxers with 14 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes of play. Alex Pfefferle (Jr., Twin Falls, Idaho) added 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Hitch was 5 of 10 from the field and 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Pfefferle was 4 of 8 from the field, 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. Paige Jensen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) scored seven to go along with nine rebounds and two assists.
 
The Boxers were outshot by the Slugs, shooting 34.1 percent from the field. The Slugs shot 84.6 percent from the free throw line to the Boxers 60 percent. The Boxers turned the ball over 23 times and forced the Slugs to turnover the ball 16 times.
 
The Boxers headed into the second half leading the Slugs 27-17. The Boxers were 8 of 19 from the field in the first half. In the second half, the Boxers were 6 of 18. From the free throw line, the Boxers were 8 of 14 in the first half. In the second half, the Boxers were 4 of 6.
 
Sarah Mackey led the Slugs with 20 points and six blocks in 31 minutes of play. Ryane Ortiz was 4 of 8 from the field, adding 10 points to go along with three assists and two steals.
 
With the Boxers first loss, they bring their record to 6-1. They will wrap up their California trip tomorrow against North Park from Chicago, Illinois. They will play at West Field House Complex in Santa Cruz, California with tip off at 3 p.m.
