Late Second Half Surge Leads Boxers To Victory Over Deacons

EUGENE, Ore. –
Alex Pfefferle (Jr., Twin Falls, Idaho) pulled the Pacific women's basketball team ahead in the second half to claim a 58-42 victory over New Hope Christian College , their last non-conference game, at the Rexius Event Center.
With seven minutes to go in the second half, Pfefferle pulled the Boxers ahead 41-38 with her first three-pointer of the game. Pfefferle would increase the Boxer lead to six after another three-pointer with five minutes to go.
With under five minutes to go, the Deacons were forced to start fouling in order to regain possession of the ball.
Heather Hitch (Sr., Enumclaw, Wash.) went to the free throw line at the 4:24 mark and made the first, but missed the second.
Kaila Johnson (So., McKinleyville, Calif.) grabbed the offensive board to give the Boxers another possession. Pfefferle, once again, took advantage of her opportunity beyond the arc, making her final three of game, to put the Boxers ahead by nine, 48-39.
The Deacons would only score three more points the rest of the game as the Boxers collected many of the offensive boards. At the 3:08 minute mark,
Paige Jensen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) scored two to put the Boxers up 50-39. With four more Deacon fouls before the game ended, the Boxers shot eight more free throws to secure the victory.
The first half seemed to be a rough start for the Boxers as they turned the ball over 14 times. Pfefferle led the Boxers with nine points in the half and Johnson scored six. The Boxers shot 27.3 percent (6 of 22), while the Deacons shot 34.8 percent (8 of 22).
The Boxers finished the game shooting 32.1 percent (17 of 53) and 77.8 percent from the free throw line (21 of 27). The Boxers outrebounded the Deacons 54 to 28. Pfefferle led the Boxers with 18 points, making 5 of 14 from the field, while collecting seven rebound. Johnson finished with nine points, while Hitch and Jensen both added eight. Jensen led the Boxers on the boards, finishing with 11.
The Boxers wrapped up non-conference action improving to 8-2 on the season (2-0 Northwest Conference). The Boxers will head into conference play this weekend on Friday and Saturday, where they will play host to Whitworth and Whitman. Tip off on Friday begins at 6 p.m.
