Boxers Open Women's Tennis Season With Sweep Of Coyotes

FOREST GROVE – The 2012 edition of the Pacific women's tennis program got off to the type of start that builds momentum Sunday, giving up just one set in a 9-0 shutout of College of Idaho at the Holce Tennis Courts.
 
Playing in their only match before the open to Northwest Conference play next weekend, the Boxers proved dominant.  In doubles, Cat Goya (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Megan Yoshimoto (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) opened the season with an 8-2 win over Hayley Hutchings and Shae Stults in the No. 1 flight. 
 
Lillian Do (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Kelsey Trujillo (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) followed with an 8-4 win over Theresa Kucera and Cassie Low at No. 2 while Rachel Mizuno (So., Mililani, Hawaii) and Amber Craniatto (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) scored an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 over Tanya Greenwood and Nicole Cammann.
 
Goya, the three-time First Team All-NWC selection, opened her singles season with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Hutchings in the No. 1 flight.  Yoshimoto was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Stults at No. 2 and Mizuno scored a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Kucera at No. 3.
 
Do and Craniatto, both playing in their first collegiate matches, opened in the win column.  Do took a 6-4, 6-2 win over Greenwood at No. 4 while Craniatto was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 5 over Low.  Kelsey Lack (So., Grants Pass, Ore.) rebounded from one set down to take out Balbine Umutesi at No. 6, 5-7, 6-2, 10-4.
 
Pacific opens up the Northwest Conference season next weekend, playing at Linfield on Friday afternoon before hosting Puget Sound on Saturday at noon.
