Five errors costly as Boxers fall to College Of Idaho 10-8.

Box Score

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Facing College Of Idaho in the first of two games at the Northwest Cup Tournament in Clackamas on Saturday, the Boxers lost 10-8 in a game where six unearned runs proved too much to overcome.

The Boxers fell behind the Coyotes 7-1 before rallying with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nikki King (Fr., Medical Lake, Wash.) singled with one out and Kaitlyn Shikada (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) drew a two-out walk before Becca Moen (So., Gresham, Ore.) singled to load the bases. After a walk to Jenna Stevens (So., Medford, Ore.)  forced King home, Chelsey Chamberlain (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) smacked a two RBI double to left field. Lauren Tuey (Sr., Redlands, Calif.) drove in two more with a base hit to make it 7-6. The inning ended when Tuey was thrown out trying to steal third.

College Of Idaho responded with three runs in the top of the sixth. After loading the bases with one out, relief pitcher Shannon Miller (So., Vancouver, Wash.) walked in a run before giving way to Jenny Yano (Fr., Ontario, Ore.), who promptly surrendered a two RBI single to Kendall Pavey.

The Boxers had one last rally in their final at bat. With two outs, Chamberlain drew a walk and Tuey singled up the middle. After a passed ball moved the runners up, Jordan Mittelsdorf (Sr., Boardman, Ore.) drove them both in with a single to the left side. Representing the tying run, Ashley Billingsley (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) fouled out to second base to end the game.

Chloe Hanson (Fr., Trail, Ore.) got the start in the circle and was charged with the loss after giving up five runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings, but a dropped fly ball in the first inning and Hanson's own error leading off the third meant all five runs were unearned.

College Of Idaho outhit Pacific 13-10, including a two-run home run by Paige Gabiola and a solo shot by Kendall Pavey, who finished the game 3 for 4 with six RBI. Moen, Tuey, Mittlelsdorf and King had two hits each for the Boxers, with Mittelsdorf driving in three runs with two runs scored. Chamberlain went 1 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Moen finished the day 5 for 8 with two runs scored batting in the leadoff spot in both games.

The Boxers (2-8) open the Northwest Conference schedule at Puget Sound next Saturday with a noon doubleheader, followed by a Sunday twinbill at Pacific Lutheran.
