Box Score
CLACKAMAS, Ore. - After a weather delay, Concordia (Ore.) broke open a close game with three-run innings in the fourth and fifth to defeat Pacific 8-1. Earlier in the afternoon, Boxers lost to College Of Idaho 10-8 in a game where six unearned runs proved too much to overcome.
Pacific put the leadoff runner on base in three of the first four innings against Concordia, but could not score a run.
Becca Moen (So., Gresham, Ore.) and
Jenna Stevens (So., Medford, Ore.) led off the game with back-to-back singles, but Moen was called out at first for leaving the bag early.
Kaitlyn Shikada (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) led off the third with a walk, but was gunned down at second trying to steal. Moen followed with a base hit only to meet the same fate, thrown out trying to steal by Concordia catcher Kate Santos. A potential big inning wilted in the fourth after
Chelsey Chamberlain (Sr., Grants Pass) led off with a walk and
Lauren Tuey (Sr., Redlands, Calif.) followed with a single. The runners stayed anchored as
Jordan Mittelsdorf (Sr., Boardman, Ore.) popped out to short and Concordia pitcher Ashley Suter fanned
Ashley Billingsley (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) and
Becca Brown (Fr., Gaston, Ore.) looking.
Suter went the distance, giving up nine hits, but only one run with seven strikeouts and four walks. Boxers' starting pitcher Jenny Yano (Fr., Ontario, Ore.) surrended a first-inning run, but it could have been much worse. Concordia loaded the bases with nobody out, scoring on an RBI single by Kyndell Andrews before Yano pitched out of the jam. Yano wriggled out of trouble again in the second after the Cavaliers loaded the bases on two errors and a walk. Then in the third, a hit batter and walk to open the inning brought about a change in the circle, with Chamberlain pitching out of trouble by recording three straight outs.
A three-run homer by Andrews in the bottom of the fourth put the Cavaliers up 4-1. Pacific mounted a two-out rally in the top of the fifth with three straight hits. Chamberlain drove home Moen with a base hit to center field to make it 4-1. But Concordia came back with three more runs in the bottom of the frame after back-to-back errors by Tuey at third base opened the door.
Yano took the loss for Pacific, allowing three hits and a run in two innings of work. Allison Gunter went 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI for Concordia, while Andrews finished 2 for 2 with a run and four RBI.
