Boxers Hold Onto Fourth With Solid Win Over George Fox

FOREST GROVE – Pairs of solid singles victories at the top and bottom of the ladder made the difference in the match Saturday as Pacific solidified their fourth place Northwest Conference standing with a 6-3 women's tennis victory over George Fox at the Holce Tennis Courts.
 
After taking two of the three doubles matches, the Boxers (6-4, 5-4 NWC) score the win with those singles tandems.  Cathlene Goya (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii) ran her singles record to 8-2 on the season with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Molly Beaumont.  Megan Yoshimoto (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) then evened up her singles record to 5-5 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alyssa Emoto at No. 2.
 
Kelsey Trujillo (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) iced the match at No. 5 with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Chantelle Hadeed while Amber Craviotto (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) earned her first NWC singles victory over a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 6 over Bethany Nguyen.
 
Shaina Inn & Cara Griffith earned the two singles wins for George Fox (2-7, 1-6 NWC), with both matches going three sets.  Inn was a 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 winner over Rachel Mizuno (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) at No. 3 while Griffith took her No. 4 match from Lillian Do (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) by the same score.
 
In doubles, Goya & Yoshimoto improved to 6-4 on the season at the No. 1 flight with an 8-5 win over Beaumont & Inn, while Mizuno and Craviotto took and 8-1 win over Nguyen and Alissandra Wittrig at No. 3.  Emoto and Griffith had George Fox's lone doubles win, taking a close 9-7 decision from Trujillo and Do at No. 2.
 
With the last two matches played under cover from the rain, Pacific will now enjoy playing their next three matches under the Florida sun.  The Boxers will play three neutral site matches in Orlando, Fla., against Colby on Thursday, Grinnell on Friday and Whittier on Mar. 27.
