FOREST GROVE – Chad Fahey (Sr., Keizer, Ore.) threw his second straight complete game shutout Sunday, leading Pacific to an impressive three-game sweep of Lewis & Clark with a 2-0 victory over the Pioneers in Northwest Conference baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium

Fahey scattered just six hits while striking out a team season high 11 strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the year.  He allowed just one runner past second base for the second straight start and now owns a streak of 18 consecutive scoreless innings.

The victory capped a very impressive series sweep where Pacific seemed to control every aspect of the game.  In the three-set, Pacific out-scored the Pioneers 24-1 and outhit the visitors34-17.

Even more impressive is the fact that the sweep moves Pacific into sole possession of second place in the NWC standings at 7-2, 10-9 overall.  The Boxers trail league leader Whitworth and sit a game ahead of third place Linfield.  Lewis & Clark dropped to 2-19 overall, 1-8 NWC.

Pacific manufactured the only run they would need in the bottom of the first inning.  Kevin Schwartz (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) led off the frame with single to center field, advanced to third on Nick Tasaka's (Jr., Hawaii Kai, Hawaii) single and scored on a Jared Van Hoon (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) ground out.

Schwartz opened the eighth inning with a single to left as the Boxers cobbled together an insurance run.  He advanced to second on a balk and to third on a ground out before scoring on a Van Hoon sacrifice fly.

Lewis & Clark's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the eighth inning.  Michael Ball singled up the middle with two outs to start the potential rally and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.  Fahey then coaxed Nick Lavin into a strike out to leave the Pioneers hanging.

Ball took the loss on the mound for the Pioneers, dropping to 1-4 on the season.  In the complete game effort, he allowed two runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts.  Schwartz's two hits led Pacific offensively while Dane Parker had three hits to pace the Pioneers.

Prior to the start of the third game of the set, the teams resumed the second game which was halted on Saturday night due to rain.  The Pioneers had runners in scoring position in each of the two remaining innings, but reliever Quin Moore (So., Bellingham, Wash.) limited L&C to two hits to preserve the 6-0 shutout.  Moore made a winner of Mike McGuire (Sr., Olympia, Wash.), who shutout the Pioneers on four hits in six innings.

Pacific will have the weekend off from NWC competition and will turn their attention to a pair of quality non-conference opponents.  The Boxers will host Concordia (Ore.) on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then will host Division II Central Washington for a doubleheader on Mon., Mar. 26.  Lewis & Clark will host Willamette for a three-game NWC series next weekend.
